Story
Sean is a very bright young man. Throughout his life he has overcome many obstacles.Having been born with cerebral palsy then later diagnosed with autism Sean struggled to take part in very few "normal" childhood activities. In 2008 Sean was taking part in wheelchair racing with a former Para Olympian Debbie Brennan. Then again disaster struck. Sean underwent an operation to assist muscle control along with pain relieving treatment. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan and ended up remaining in hospital for almost a year (original expected time of the stay was 3-4 days ). Things went horribly wrong and Sean returned home in 2009 unable to sit up independently, stand or even walk at all. Attached to intravenous machines keeping him alive by providing the nutrition his body needed to remain alive. He was placed on palliative care. At 14 Sean had a year to catch up on his missed education and set his mission to return to school "not stay at home and have his brow wiped. He wasn't palliative dying he was living ". He went to school escorted by Mum as he needed medical assistance 24/7 for his equipment ( Mum being the only one who had undergone full training ). He studied hard nagged on by Mum and his assistant, Mum brought in extra Maths tuition, and he passed every GCSE. He then went on to local college, achieving his goal to go to University. Now at 21 years old still remaining dependant on his intravenous machinery for a minimum of 13 hours a day he is studying Law and Social Care. The only sport Sean can now take part in is Power Wheelchair Football. He is no longer safe to get into his racing chair or have the strength to push his own chair to play in other wheelchair sports. Sean has been playing for a few years now for Telford PFC in the Regional West Midlands League and the National League. To enable Sean to maintain a good quality of life we are starting off with funding a new chair to enable him to continue competing at national level with a chance to win.
