Story
Our hard working dad has been left paralyzed after he had an operation for a kidney transplant. July 27th 2016 we got the phone call from Hammersmith Hospital at midnight, a call we had been waiting for, for 6 years."we have a matching kidney"
So our dad left for the hospital for his kidney transplant. After all the checks they we were told dad is fit enough for the op & the kidney is a match, so my dad went and walked down to the theatre room.
The operation went well & was a success & our dad was bought up to the high dependency unit to ensure the kidney is not rejected. However my dads potassium levels began to increase & was advised he will need a round of dialysis to bring this down.
During the dialysis our dads blood pressure dropped and the machine was not switched of in time and our dads spine was starved of blood and damaged a nerve. This damage caused my dad to lose the sensation in his legs and has been told he will not walk again.
This is devastating news for him and the family, here we thought this operation would change my dads life for the better and will get his life back and not have to go for dialysis 3 times a week and be able to enjoy his life again with his wife, kids and more importantly his grand children.
After putting in applications for financial support to build our dad an extension to the house, with living accommodation for him, the local authority have said they are unable to help.
Our dad is currently in hospital until we can build suitable accommodation for him. He has not been home for 5 months and all he wants to do is come home.
We are raising money today to help build suitable housing for our dad to come home and still be independent and be with his family. Also to help us take our dad abroad to pay for stem cell treatment, giving our dad the opportunity
It's sad to see our strong independent dad having to sit at the hospital helpless not being able to come home and continue to be the man of the house.
