Hi,

This summer we will be travelling to Ghana to volunteer with children at an orphanage in Kumasi for four weeks. We will be volunteering with 'Plan My Gap Year'.

PMGY collaborate with an orphanage called Kumasi Children’s Home that is open all year round and home to over 100 people. The children at the orphanage range from babies to teenagers. Some of the people at the orphanage have physical and additional support needs which include Down Syndrome, Autism, and very high functioning disabled children. A lot of help is needed supporting special needs children.

Many of the children arrive at a very young age, as their mothers die in childbirth and have no one to look after them. The home also accepts abandoned children, street children and children of unstable parents. They even occasionally care for children whose families are travelling.

Whilst volunteering, our roles will involve supporting and assisting at the orphanage in Kumasi. It will include teaching, feeding, cleaning, playing and providing general support to the children.
