Weʼre raising £2,500 to celebrate the Albion Bi-centenary

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
April 2019 will mark 200 years since the first mass sailing of emigrants to the New World direct from Cardigan. Around 200 people, including many children, set sail in a converted cargo ship for New Brunswick in Canada and were followed by more over the next 20 years or so.
Cymdeithas Aberteifi Society is planning a series of events - social, entertainment, exhibitions, etc - around Easter time to celebrate the event and recognise the hardships that these people had to endure in the search for a better life. One of the things we want to do is bring a traditional wooden ship to the quayside to provide a focus for the events. The ship will also offer trips around the estuary, weather permitting. We need your help to raise £2500 which will go towards hiring the ship and raising awareness of Cardigan’s maritime heritage.
The Society's aim is to encourage pride in Cardigan Town through its heritage and people. We are open to members and we work with other groups and businesses in and around the town. Our activities so far have included a Giant Lantern Parade last Christmas, managing the Cardigan Town App, talks and presentations, an exhibition, helping to create a Faith Trail and placing 'Blue Plaques on historical sites. We also manage a website www.cardigan-maritime.com and have a Facebook page @cymdeithas.aberteifi.society..

About the fundraiser
I am treasurer of Cymdeithas Aberteifi Society. We aim to encourage pride in our town and, with this project, we want to make more people aware of the maritime history of Cardigan. We work with other groups and businesses to engage as many people as possible in what we do.
