    Story

This is Alfie, a very clever and happy little boy with lots of love, hugs and kisses to give. He has a brilliant memory and is a whizz on the Ipad! He loves theme park rides, trains, horse riding and live plays. However Alfie is unable to talk, write or do many things for himself and relies on the use of a specialised buggy to get around. Unfortunately he has outgrown his present buggy and his family desperately need to raise funds for a bigger buggy adapted to his needs. Here is a brief insight into Alfie's story......

When Alfie was born his parents had no idea that he had disabilities and were sent home to enjoy their baby boy. After a week they noticed something was wrong, he didn't react to anything and never cried, not even for food. Alfie was admitted to hospital because his oxygen levels were too low and he would have big pauses in breathing at times. Gemma and Richard were given the news that Alfie was nearly completely blind and deaf, he had a heart murmur, a floppy larynx cutting off his oxygen supply, reflux and hypermobility. When Alfie was 6 weeks old they were told that Alfie had a rare genetic condition, so rare he is the only person recorded in the world with this chromosome abnormality.

The following year was a whirlwind of appointments and treatments including an operation to give him hearing and his eyesight slowly developed. When Alfie was a year old he developed terrifying seizures and now takes medication to control epilepsy. His development has been very slow, he was  7  when  he  took  his first steps.

On Friday 29th December I will be taking part, with my family and Alfie, in a sponsored walk around Draycote Water to aim to raise £1000 to give Alfie and his family the opportunity to access the community more easily with a new specially adapted buggy! Please help us reach our target of £1000.

I am very fortunate to be Alfie's support worker. Each week we enjoy outings to soft play and sensory activities. He is a very sociable young man who loves watching people and is always smiling.
