    Story

My name is Wil Turner and I’m looking to raise at least £2000 for ward D35 at QMC Nottingham and am looking for your help. I am riding the Notts Maid Marion 75 (75 mile cycle ride) on 24th June and the Prudential Ride London (100 mile cycle ride) on July 29th. This is the ward my grandson Harley attends and like for many poorly children hospital becomes a second home, not only for the child but for parents, siblings and family. The ward is in desperate need of a new family kitchen and bathroom. This is nothing short of what they deserve as the care given by all staff is exceptional. If more than enough is raised we could hopefully decorate the ward to be more appealing to the babies and children who stay there.

    This is Harley's story.

He was born on 26th Dec 2016 by emergency C-section at 37 weeks weighing 4lb 7oz, He was in neo natal until 2nd Feb 2017 transferring to ward D35 until 23rd May 2017.

He was born with atresia of the oesophagus with tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF), patent ducts arteriosus, duodenal atresia/stenosis, neonatal jaundice, subependymal/germinal layer haemorrhage, sepsis, neonatal hypoglycaemia, imperforate anus, anorectal malformation, thrombocytopaenia, anaemia, mild pulmonary and mitral valve stenosis, sacral and vertebral anomalies and global growth failure.

Harley had his first of many operations at 3hrs old to repair his oesophagus and join it to his stomach. At 4 weeks he had his intestine attached to his bowel and fitted with a stoma. At 8 weeks he had an open gastrostomy (a mini button) and a dilation of his oesophagus as it had narrowed. Harley needed this as he struggled to swallow. On 23rd October he had posterior capital anorectoplasty (a bum hole), esophagoscopy (he as oesophagitis and is on maximum reflux medication at the time). Also an MRI scan on his skull and spine, the outcome is that his spine tails to left so the nerves may have loss of lower body sensation (i.e. sensation of need to wee or poo).

To date his latest operation on 3rd April 18 was to reverse his stoma which was a success. In the future Harley will need a fundo (to stop reflux) and an operation on his skull.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and donating.
