We are team esmedancewear, Annette and Jane. We have known Drew since birth. We were all so happy for Mel, Jon and the very excited grandparents on the arrival of a much wanted child. We fell in love with him from the first moment Mel and Jon brought him to esme dancewear. We have watched him grow as Mel used to bring him into work for us all to see him. He was a wonderful little boy, very bright and very caring. The cancer was so fast and cruel, it was heart breaking for such a little boy and for his family.
In early November 2016 our friends three year old son, Drew Barker-Wright was diagnosed with Chordoma, a rare type of cancer that occurs in the skull base and spine. He was admitted to Oncology at Birmingham Children's Hospital where he began intensive chemotherapy and surgery.
Drew's journey was fraught with complications from the outset. This was primarily due to the rareness of his cancer and the lack of documented cases. On the morning of February 24th 2017, Drew took his last breath at home with Mummy and Daddy. His battle was brief and brutal but, bravely fought for one so young.
We are taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon as part of #team drew, along with 50+ other wonderful people. Neither of us have any running experience, but the thought of beautiful Drew will get us to the finishing line. Any donation will be gratefully received. Many, many thanks.
