Some facts about world hunger and poverty

Development can help reduce poverty, raise incomes and improve food security for 80% of the world's poor, who live in rural areas and work mainly in farming. 'Development' is complex and challenging and injustice is one of the biggest components of why poverty exists. To me development means helping people to live a fuller life; enjoying mutual freedoms on basic needs such as shelter, food nutrition, education, clothing and health. Using the insights gained from this university course plus my background in education and sustainable agriculture I will be able to influence others to empower marginalised people by working with development organisations that promote sustainable agriculture, food security, education, and livelihood programmes.
