Story
My name is Ikepo Abiru & I am working with Ivie Itoje, Larissa Kennedy, Danielle Jinadu and the rest of the Warwick Anti-Racism Society exec to raise money for the International Organisation for Migration and African Lives Matter. The former does grassroots work rescuing Nigerian migrants in Libya and the latter is part of a global Pan-African Movement, which calls on decision-makers across the world to stop the enslavement of African migrants, and the U.K. arm will be going to do work in Libya in a month’s time.
I am sure most of you have seen footage/pictures of or at least heard about the slave markets and human trafficking in Libya. The situation in Libya is dire but, unfortunately, it is evocative of what's going on in many parts of the world. It is important for us all to recognise that what's happening in Libya is not novel or unique to Libya alone.
Slavery and human trafficking are undeniably crimes against humanity and we cannot afford to allow history to repeat itself. Black people are being sold like cattle. It is incumbent on us to speak out and work to bring this to an end, otherwise we are all complicit. If you were horrified by the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, you should be even more horrified and outraged that this is still happening in 2017, in our world & on our watch.
Please donate, spread the word and share the link to our page.
