Weʼre raising £1,500 to Help to repair our vintage diesel locomotive

One of the most popular locomotives in the collection at Apedale is the 1931-built Deutz. The only one of its kind in the UK, it has a large single cylinder horizontal diesel engine. It worked at a Sewage works in Dartford before being preserved, initially in Wales, then Cadeby, now at Apedale. The loco is owned by the Moseley Railway Trust, having been bequeathed to the Trust by its late owner, John Lucas. Always a real attraction and crowd-pleaser when operating, the loco was noted to have a "wobbly flywheel" when last operated. Investigation showed that one of the two large flywheels had a crack starting from a keyway in the hub. We need to fund the specialist weld repair of the crack. This will then mean that this wonderful old piece of industrial heritage can be seen running again at Apedale.
