Weʼve raised £2,000 to help support Phillippa through her cancer treatment

Funded on Wednesday, 15th August 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

We have created this fundraiser in aid of our friend, Phillippa (AKA Pip).

A cancer diagnosis presses the ‘pause’ button on your life, yet the world around you keeps on turning with you feeling somehow left behind.” - Phillippa Lusty

On August 15th 2017, Phillippa was given the news nobody ever wants to hear. She had found a lump in her right breast some months before but had thought nothing of it. There had been several trips to the doctors beforehand where she had complained of ongoing fatigue and never feeling 100%, but all test results had come back clear and it was all put down as stress and depression.

At the age of 29, cancer was the last thing on her mind. She had just started a new job and was preoccupied with the usual stresses of everyday life. The fatigue and feeling under par had become something that she had become used to and something she did her best to cope with.

Eventually, Phillippa reluctantly went to the doctors about the lump in her breast and a biopsy confirmed what she thought was simply impossible; it was breast cancer.

After multiple surgeries including a mastectomy and the removal of 21 lymph nodes, followed by months of chemotherapy, Phillippa still has a long way to go. In May 2018 she will be having a left-breast mastectomy and begin the reconstruction process for both amputations. Once recovered from surgery, Phillippa will then undergo radiotherapy.

Throughout all of this, Phillippa has managed to keep her smile and sense of humour – she has been making short video blogs of her journey through this in the hope of shedding a bit of light on the subject, as well as donating her hair to a children’s wig charity before beginning her chemotherapy.

    This campaign

As well as losing a great deal of her independence during this time, one of the most frustrating issues has been Phillippa's inability to work and therefore support herself not just in the cost of every-day living, but with the hidden expenses that go hand-in-hand with an ongoing illness such as this.

Her work has been very understanding, but unfortunately she is no longer entitled to sick pay and is feeling the pressure on her finances, relying on family over the past few months to help cover the bills.

This is an opportunity for us to support Phillippa and offer a small hand during this difficult time. From the endless travel to and from the hospitals, to the plethora of health supplements, specialist clothing, and costly treatments, this fundraiser is designed to offer some financial relief to Phillippa while she gets back on her feet in in terms of her health, work and independence.

Thank you so much for your help.

I work with Meg Woolcock who I know is a very close friend of Pip’s, I have had a few close friends cope with this hideous disease and have seen the trials and tribulations first hand x
