Story
Just before the end of term, our school nurse Emmalene was driving to school when she was involved in a head on collision. A young driver came straight towards her, overtaking a lorry in the opposite direction. Such was the force of the impact that he was killed in the collision. Emmalene's back was broken, along with injuries to her collar bone, pelvis and hand. Yet her first instinct was to get out of the car to help the young man.
Fortunately, it seems there is no lasting nerve damage, and Emmalene's back, collar bone and hand have all now been successfully operated on. However, she is clearly going to be out of action for a while - it will be at least six months before she can drive - and in that time she will be unable to do many of the things she would normally do to look after her family (she has a seven year old son).
Emmalene has been giving her expert medical help as a nurse to our children since she joined Beeston. As many of you will know, she has an incredibly kind and loving way with children, and in the short time she has been at Beeston she has already become very important to many children.
We would like to make sure she has all the support she needs to get better, through what will inevitably be a long and difficult recovery - especially once she returns home from hospital.
We would like to make funds available to her and her husband to use as they like, but possibly to include:
o Child care
o Transport to hospital
o Help with school runs
o Help around home
o Counselling for Emmalene and for her son
Please give whatever you can.
We wish Emmalene well and look forward to seeing her back at school whenever that is.
With love from us,
the Friends of Beeston

6 years agoDear all, time for a final update as we will be closing this page on Sunday. A huge thank you to you all for your amazing generosity. Together we have raised a whopping £4,779, all of which (minus justgiving fees) will go to help Emmalene and her family. She is continuing to improve but it's a slow process and I know with the support of her family and friends she will get there. Emmalene, we are sending you lots of love!

6 years agoHere is an update from Emmalene. It's in two parts due to the number of characters allowed: 'It’s almost 6 weeks since the accident and progress is being made slowly but surely. I have been home almost 3 weeks which has been lovely but also difficult. This is due to the realisation that I remain completely dependent on family and friends. This has caused me to feel very low at times. It’s during these times the kindness that’s been shown to me by others has really lifted my spirits...
