Story
On Yer Bike, Tony!
My husband, Tony Beckett, is cycling the length of the UK from - Dover to Durness - to help raise money for Appin Village Hall. The hall is the hub of the local community but the roof is leaking and needs to be replaced. We live in the village and Tony is keen to lend his support.
The D2D ride starts in Dover on 24th July 2021 and ends in Durness on 5th August. The route is 944 road miles and the average daily cycle is 72 miles. Please support his efforts. All money raised will go directly to the hall fund.

3 years agoTony's bike ride - final update: Day 13 took them from Ullapool to Durness and the ride is over. Tony is glad he's done it and glad he's finished. Exhausted but still smiling. The group had a great final meal in the Smoo Cave Hotel before heading home this morning by - car/bus/train - anything other than bicycle. Many thanks again to everyone who has supported Tony and contributed to hall funds. Tony says 'Cheers!'

3 years agoDay 9 saw the group cycling from Brodick on Arran to Oban where I met up with Tony for a meal and had the privilege of collecting his dirty washing. It had been an exhausting day but a good one as it made it on to his 'best three' list - twice. Best accommodation - New Mills in Derbyshire Best lunch - Ardrishaig Best weather - Oban! So they are more than two thirds of the way there and will be in Mallaig tonight. Of the 20 cyclists who started out, only 2 have fallen by the wayside - not literally - the others will be in Durness Thursday night.

3 years agoIt's Day 4 and the group have survived the threat of thunderstorms and flooding and are on track. The first couple of days were hard going but he's into the routine now and even the saddle sores are easing off. However, there will be scars and Tony will happily show them to anyone who asks. You have been warned! He's doing a mere 62 miles today into Derbyshire then to Yorkshire tomorrow where the attraction of 'a decent pint of beer' will keep him going regardless of the weather or terrain. Thank you again on behalf of Tony and Appin Hall.
