Story
Being citizens of the U.K. in this day and age it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the relative comfort and security we all enjoy, purely by virtue of our place of birth. There are countless thousands of others - many born into circumstances outside their control - that may never experience what we consider to be basic human rights, as a result of a cruel twist of fate and geography.
The Rohingya are one such group of people. Made to feel like others in their own home, denied the right to citizenship in the country of their birth, and now killed for nothing other than their heritage by those with a responsibility to protect them, many have fled to neighbouring countries to escape persecution - including Bangladesh, the country of our parental ancestry.
One of the largest refugee camps in the world now exists in Cox's Bazar near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, where over half a million displaced Rohingya are housed in conditions of squalor. Outbreaks of deadly diseases have been widely reported and, with no access to basic medical care, female victims of rape are delivering or miscarrying without support.
As doctors of Bangladeshi descent we feel a sense of duty to provide hands-on help on the frontline. We will therefore be travelling to Cox's Bazar in April this year with MedGlobal, a humanitarian organisation operating in the area, to run some clinics and offer whatever help we can to these destitute people.
Whilst we try our best to assist the people we will meet during our mission, we ask for your support in maximising our impact. We humbly request that you consider donating as much or as little as you can reasonably afford towards our cause, via the hyperlink on this page. All funds will be put towards purchasing medications and supplies that are desperately needed on the ground.
We thank you in advance for every penny that you can spare to save the lives of some of these people.
