We are Ashley & Lisa and we are cousins taking part in Pretty Muddy 5K challenge in July and the Wigan/Leigh 10K runs this summer. We are raising money to split between two charities close to our hearts, Dementia Buddy and Cancer research. 
Our Grandad lives with Alzheimers disease and dementia buddy are a charity that allows him to get out and interact with other people in a similar position. They provide dementia cafes where they provide many activities for people with dementia. Another important, yet costly part of the charity's work, is to provide guardian angel devices to people with dementia. Guardian angels are devices (wristbands, keyrings, badges) that contain electronic emergency contact details, so that if a person seen wearing one appears confused or lost, they can be reunited with there family with the tap of an android phone on the device. These devices cost £5 each, however, dementia buddy charity give 2 free to dementia patients in across the Wigan Borough and are now trying to roll out the devices nationwide. This shows how important donations are to this charity to help fund these devices.
Our second charity is cancer research. Everybody reading this must have been affected in some way by cancer. The two of us lost our Nan 15 years ago to lung cancer, we also have an amazing cousin Rachel who has been fighting this horrible illness for the last 6 years. 
The pretty muddy race also has extra relevance for Lisa as recently she watched cancer rob her oldest friend Emma of her amazing mum Wendy and her close friend Jackie Hibbert has also been fighting breast cancer. It is the ongoing struggles linked to reconstructive surgery from this battle that have prevented Jackie joining us on this challenge which she would love to have done if possible.
It is for these reasons and in honour of the strength all these ladies have shown, we are running this race to help raise funds to find a cure for cancer.
