Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
In the hostile world we live in, showing compassion is unfashionable and treating refugees with respect is controversial. Helping one person is an act of rebellion. We must never bow down to bigotry and hate
Hi! I am a 26-year old from Romford, Essex. It is my dream to become a lawyer and to spend my life trying to help the disadvantaged and resist the hostile environment. I have spent three years working in asylum and human rights charities- firstly conducting refugee legal aid in Cairo, Egypt; then working in London with young women who are victims of trafficking, then most recently working in a domestic violence charity. I love working with people and I have been able to change people's lives for the better.
I want to keep doing this work- but I want to make bigger changes and help people by fighting for them in Court- preventing unlawful detentions and deportations, and giving them access to their rights.
To do this I need to complete the Bar Professional Training Course (https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/qualifying-as-a-barrister/current-requirements/bar-professional-training-course/) the course you need to take to become a Barrister. I have a place at BPP University starting this September. However, the cost is £19,070! Fortunately, I have managed to secure a discount of £4000 because of my committment to pro bono work but I still need to raise £15,070 from somewhere. For a young woman from Essex with retired parents who has spent her life working for good causes, this is an impossible sum. The problem is, we need more people like me becoming Barristers! The law should not be determined by a privileged few.
This is where you can help! Anything that you can spare will go a long way towards my tuition. I am not becoming a lawyer because I want to be rich or famous- unsurprisingly much of this work is either legally aided or pro bono, so I never will be! I want to become a lawyer because I really believe that through the law you can change people's lives.
By helping me, you are contributing to our legal system and indirectly contributing to asylum seekers and vulnerable groups who need a lawyer- and a lawyer that cares about them.
Please, please help me achieve my dream!
Finally, I understand it may be difficult to justify giving money to a student for their tuition fees. I am happy to give you more information if you are unsure whether to donate. Please just send me a message!

I staunchly oppose the UK government's stance against migrants and refugees. I believe that everyone deserves a shot at a happy and prosperous life, and it is the duty of those of us who are privileged to give a helping hand!
