    Story

When Austin passed away on Sunday 2nd June it was a huge shock to the family. He was always bursting with energy, always wearing a big grin on his face and out of nowhere he was taken from us.

If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Austin you would know that he was truly one in a billion. He loved the world around him and was a star in anything he did, from his love of playing football with his friends to being selected to dance in the Royal Albert Hall.

He was extremely clever for his age and was never afraid to ask questions to learn and understand more. His quick wit also gave him perfect comedic timing - he always knew how and when to make you laugh so hard especially with his cheeky grin.

Austin also had a huge heart. He would share his sweets, his toys and always look out for his family and friends. His concern for those in need made him declare he wanted to be a paediatrician, a huge word for a 9 year old but he knew it meant being a doctor for children.

Until now we still don’t know the circumstances of his death as the coroner is still investigating. The week before he died he had an eye infection and was taken to A&E on Monday, discharged on Wednesday with antibiotics and sadly passed away on Sunday.

As a family we are heartbroken at this sudden loss because we know Austin was truly one to watch. He had a lot of ambition for his future and spoke excitedly of one day being big enough to travel to Florida with his best friend. The promise he had makes it difficult to take in as he showed so much excellence in everything he did.

Austin never had any long term health conditions so it’s for this reason we are unprepared and unequipped financially to cover the cost of his burial, which has been quoted as £5,000. If you can contribute anything great or small we would really appreciate your help.

    Thank you!

    Austin O'Dowd 2nd November 2009 - 2nd June 2019

Cannot imagine how it feels to lose a child. Austin's time here was too short when such promise was hoped for.
