Story
Earlier this year I was nominated by my School Pittville, to attend the Outward Bound Bursary in partnership with the Gloucestershire Police. I was given the opportunity to develop my potential, face new challenges and build personal, social and emotional skills. Since attending I was nominated for a scholarship with the Outward Bound Association. This just giving page is to help me fund raise towards the cost of the 19 days’ course for my “skills for life badge”. This is an experience I am really looking forward to. The skills for life is equivalent to a GSCE grade and will provide me with a foundation for my future. With your help I can achieve my goal.
The Outward Bound Bursary with the Police force originally took place in mid-February this year and despite the cold weather we achieved numerous skills such as camping, setting up tents, gorge walking, rock climbing and walking in freezing waters at night. I made many new friends and discovered I can do more things I could possibly dream of. The instructors described me as small and mighty, as I was the smallest of the group but never gave up!
The skills for life is a 19-day course that will push me further, learning new skills to help me work in a team and individually. I have been told to expect long treks, nights under the stars, cooking for myself and group members, map reading skills, building shelters and making fire the traditional way (plus a lot more).
To help with my fund raising I have set myself some interesting challenges, some I have already completed and I may even add more!
1, Trip on a steam train to a remote location and mountain bike back home 25 miles. This I have already completed. It was the first time I have done this type of challenge, it was exhausting because of the heat and elevation.
2, Took the bus to a remote location and walked back, completing nearly 15 miles on foot. This I have also achieved. During my walk I found places I’d never been to before, I wouldn’t hesitate to do this again. Dad’s hammock was really handy.
3, I have registered to do the Cheltenham Challenge, a 5km run, this is happening on 17th June.
4, I will be baking and selling cakes at my school.
If anyone would like to sponsor me to help fulfil my £400 goal, it would be much appreciated. Even the smallest amount will go a long way for me and make all the difference.
Thank you.
