    Story

Hi! My name is Paula. On June 16 I became an aunt again. My sister gave birth at just 26 weeks to a 900 gram gorgeous baby girl.

So 6 months ago I went with my sister for a routine ultrasound, the result of which delighted the entire family, she's pregnant again. You see, before this pregnancy she had a silent miscarriage. She went to see her obstetrician for her regular pre-natal check up, and unfortunately, doctor couldn't detect a heart beat and broke the news to my sister that she suffered sudden fetal death. My sister and brother-in-law were devastated. They have a 10 year old son and have been trying to get pregnant again for a while.

A week ago my sister went into premature labour, had bloody show and contractions. We rushed her to hospital and her cervix was found to be fully dilated. The doctor had to deliver. She gave birth at just 26 weeks to a 900 gram baby girl. My sister and brother-in-law named her Ramielle. But I like to call her ramen instead, yeah, just like the noodles =)

Baby Ramen had a good cry and reflexes when she was delivered. But doctors said she'll have to be in hospital for 2-3 months. My sister had been discharged since. Sadly, she had to leave baby Ramen behind.

My niece has been in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) since birth 7 days ago. She is in an incubator, she is hooked to a mechanical ventilator, has a tube down her mouth to her tummy, a line connected to her umbilicus for medications and attached to a monitor.

I started this crowd funding to help my sister and her family with hospital bill. There is no NHS in the Philippines. People either pay for health, or wait to be treated. It is important that baby Ramen survive because I believe she is meant to experience life and will do great at it. Also, I can't bear the thought of my sister having to lose another child. To this date they are paying up to an equivalent of £600 a day worth of NICU stay.

Thank you for whatever help you can offer.

My sister finally cuddled baby Ramen after 4 weeks. Sadly, 2 days after this photo was taken docs had to to intubate baby ramen again due to extreme hypoxia and bradycardia. Nonetheless, I'd like to thank everyone for all the help in money and in kind to. It is all very much appreciated.

Docs had to put a jugular central line as baby ramen has poor veins. But overall her improvement has been very good.

The PDA has closed from drug therapy, which was good news. However, baby Ramen now developed at atelectasis due to prolonged intubatation. We are still thankful there was an improvement. Her feeding has been increased hence she gained some weight. Hopefully doctors will act soon on her lungs.

Hello! I am Paula. Originally from the Philippines, I moved to the UK to work as a nurse 7 years ago. I work for the NHS and am proud to do so. I find my job very rewarding. However, also frustrating when I can't look after a sick family member who's halfway around the world.
