Story
Hi there,
By this time next week i will be at Hope School in the Tramkak District of Southern Cambodia where I will be volunteering for the next 8 weeks. The school is in a very rural area and provides English speaking lessons to all age groups of local children. If the children are able to converse in the universal English language, so many more opportunities are available to them to improve their financial future. Many will be able to move to the main cities of Cambodia to find better paid work ensuring they are able to support themselves there after.
The school is run entirely on donations and by volunteers, many who come to Cambodia for this volunteering experience from the UK. The next main building project is to add some more toilet facilities and I would like to think that I could encourage some more donations here so that we can add some showers too! A great idea to do two jobs at one go!
I will be there until the end of May, 8 weeks away. I have made this page as a crowdfunder so that as donations are made, I can buy the items required (using my own credit card) myself whilst there and I can oversee the building project and make sure that the monies raised go to the toilets/shower building project.
Many thanks in advance for your contributions, It will make such a difference to have these facilities at Hope School and will be very, very much appreciated by all the students, and the volunteers at the school

6 years agoI am now back home after the most amazing experience of my life! How did it take me till this old age to go volunteer somewhere totally out of my comfort zone, I have no idea! It's not handing out orange slices at the city marathon is it :-) All I can say is that everyone should take the plunge, get out there, make a difference where it is desperately needed, it will change your life too. This will be an ongoing fundraising project for me as Bakod Village and its residents deserve as much help as they can be given to improve their lives.
