Story
Barton House Group Practice is a GP surgery in Stoke Newington, Hackney with over 12.5k patients. The surgery sees hundreds of people (incl. lots of children, obviously) every day as well as providing a baby clinic and a weekly welfare rights advice session, amongst other services.
As patients we have received many kindnesses at Barton House over the years, beyond the standard GP care. We have also benefitted from incredible care from the NHS, even as the NHS struggles due to budget cuts.
Visiting Barton House recently, we noticed that the well-loved children's play area in the waiting room looked a bit battered and ready for a refresh. We decided to try and raise the money to buy a new set of waiting room toys and paint a new mural in the alcove. Toys suitable for a medical waiting room are expensive: they must be designed to withstand a lot of use and meet high safety standards. The brilliant staff at the practice are working with us directly on this, but the fundraising is down to us.
We aim mainly to raise this money by running several races: on Saturday 26th May 2018 Marlo will be running a "kid's mile" and I will be running a 5k, followed by a 10k on Saturday 2nd June. We've got a lot of training to do! :)
Marlo was also born with severe talipes (club feet) and has been through a lot to turn his feet the right way round including two operations last year, so it's extra special to us for him to be able to run a race for a good cause now.
If you or anyone you know lives nearby and uses this surgery we'd be grateful if you could donate even a little bit, forward this or share on social media to help us reach our goal. Thanks for your help, we really appreciate it. We're excited to get started on this project!

After quitting smoking a year ago (after 20 years of unwavering commitment) I've now taken the radical and totally non-cliched step of running races for charity. Don't judge me, apparently this is what happens to you in your thirties, apart from getting really into slippers.
