    Story

Along with some of my colleagues at Blue Jelly I am walking 20 miles through the Chiltern Hills on 5th May. We have each chosen our own charities and I have chosen to raise much needed funds for SAFE.

SAFE are a small group of horse-loving volunteers in Berkshire & Surrey, UK, who could not sit back and watch abandoned and fly-grazed horses and ponies suffer. They give their support voluntarily and will assist and advise whenever time, money and space allows.

This group has come about after managing to save and subsequently re-home twenty two abandoned fly-grazed horses in Binfield (Berkshire) in the Winter of 2014. Sadly, another sixteen horses died before they could be saved.

They currently have 16 horses in their care under rehabilitation. Each horse receives veterinary attention on arrival and subsequent medication, usually to manage liver damage (common with fly-grazed horses due to eating the poisonous Ragwort plant), parasite infection, worm burden, sores and wounds. In addition, all male horses (90% of our herd) are castrated before re-homing to stop them from adding to the ‘over-breeding’ crisis from whence they came.

This is a charity very close to my heart. Horses are such loving animals and every animal deserves to be shown love and care. Please dig deep into your pockets to help these beautiful creatures x

So the walk is now done! I completed it in 8 and a half hours (7.5hrs walking). It was extremely hilly and very hot but I still loved it - might not be that tempted to do that route again though! A massive thank you to all who have donated; some of whom I have never even met! The money will be going straight into SAFE's bank account at the end of the week xxx
