    Story

100 miles in 48 hours for good causes

Ben Powell (13) will be joining around 150 friends and fellow pupils from Beechen Cliff School, Bath in taking on "The Centurion Challenge". He'll be walking 100 miles in 48 hours over the weekend of Friday 6 - Sunday 8 July 2018 in soaring temperatures and forfeiting watching England's World Cup Quarter Final - all for good causes! Starting and finishing the challenge at school in Bath, Centurions also spend two nights camping at a location over 20 miles away, with Saturday alone host to a gruelling 60-mile round trip.

Celebrating its 50th Anniversary, this annual endurance event raises money for local, national and international good causes, this year's being distributed between Prostate Cancer UK, Brain Tumour Research , Atlantic Pacific and Mentoring Plus, a wonderful Bath-based charity providing targeted help and support to children and young people with family, educational, emotional and employability needs.

Ben's participation has been entirely self-motivated with a steely determination to undertake and complete this personal, physical and mental challenge whilst raising money for great causes. If you feel able to sponsor Ben by donating even a small amount, he would be absolutely thrilled and would provide him with yet further motivation and inspiration in knowing you're supporting him from afar. Thank you for your support x

Thanks so much for supporting this great cause. Here's Ben (right) with two friends just before the off at 4pm today. The celebratory mood was tempered by news that the organisers had taken the difficult decision to curtail the weekend route due to weather conditions. Despite extra precautions of safety briefings, additional water supplies & more, a 60-mile walk tomorrow in 30 degree heat was deemed a risk to health. The revised "Demi-Centurion" will see everyone walking 50 miles in 24 hours, still an outstanding achievement I hope you agree.
