Mordicai, is a twelve-week old kitten and he was chosen by Lucie (17) from Cat's Protection in Truro, Cornwall. Lucie asked me (Lucie's mother) if she could have her own kitten and something to focus on and I thought it would be a benefit for Lucie to help her overcome certain events. This beautiful kitten has become Lucie's close friend and companion over the short period of time that he has been within our home (adopted 9th July 2017). We also have another two other cats who are also adored by all three children. The older two cat's Sapphire and Autumn mother and care for Mordacai. Mordacai is an extra special kitten as he was hand at birth after his own mother rejected him.

On the 28th July 2017, Lucie was faced with witnessing Mordacai have his first fit the experience of witnessing this is traumatic not just for me as a mother to Lucie but also for Mordacai. Lucie and myself straight away took Mordacai to Vet's for Pet's in Camborne, Cornwall. From that moment Mordacai has had an array of fits and stayed between Vet's for Pet's through the day and C Vet's on an evening for emergency care. He is currently on anti-seizure medication to prevent him from having more fits, however, this is only a temporary fixture. My vet advised me that Mordacai needed an MRI scan to find out what is causing his fits. Therefore, due to living in in Cornwall which is a rural location there is no MRI scanning machines and the nearest is in Somerset. Lucie and myself traveled with Mordacai this week to have the MRI scan which revealed that he has a cyst on his brain. Mordacai is now currently staying with Cave Vet's in Somerset pending to life saving treatment.

Mordacai urgently needs the lifesaving veterinary treatment urgently. Without the treatment he will have to be put to sleep which will devastate Lucie and the rest of the family. Despite having kitten pet plan insurance the limit is £4,000 and this ran out of policy on the 5th August 2017. The new policy which starts on the 6th August has a maximum of £4,000, however the operation is £4600.

Before asking for pledges of support from Just giving I did did ask if Cat's Protection could help with any funding. However, due to their policy of if Mordacai was in their care they would have put him to sleep due to the cost. Cat's Protection do not take into account the hope Mordacai has given to Lucie. Their approach is the greatest benefit for all. Mordacai was scheduled to have surgery on Monday but the shunt to relieve the pressure from his brain needs to be ordered. This is an expensive piece of equipment to order and without the funding in place it will not be ordered by the vet's.

This has been really difficult to put into words the emotions and feelings that have occurred over the past week. However, as a family we are staying strong and positive.
