    Story

    Hi all,

As some of you may know, I am embarking on a big adventure in July 2017. I am off to Guadalajara, Mexico to spend 4 weeks working in emergency departments and trauma centres for my elective placement.

The nursing work experience projects in Mexico are based in Guadalajara at a number of partner hospitals, ranging from large multi-disciplinary hospitals to small rural clinics. To further my learning in an area that I feel passionate about, I will be able to work with nurses in a busy accident and emergency clinic, care for children with cancer and assist nurses with patient care in the larger hospitals.

Many of the hospitals we work with are part of the Red Cross or Green Cross organisations. Unlike in the UK, medical provision in Mexico is not free. These organisations provide hospital and medical services to those who are unable to afford it. They are also on hand to provide assistance in the event of natural disasters such as the earthquakes and hurricanes that occasionally hit the region. As these organisations are non-profit organisation they are always in need of funding and volunteers. Hence why I am asking for help from you lovely people! I need to be able to fund the project (costing £1250) as well as costly flights, insurance and equipment, as well as a Spanish language course, and so this opportunity won't come cheap, but it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me learn heaps about emergency and trauma nursing in an amazing environment. So please, any help would fantastic and I will love you forever! :)

Also, I will be making cakes and all sorts of other fundraising things so please keep an eye out and donate if you can.

    Thank you!

    Beth :)
