Story
My daughter Bethany is 18 today! Bethany is severely disabled: she has athetoid cerebral palsy, is profoundly deaf, has severe learning difficulties and has a 90 degree scoliosis. Bethany s a very sociable girl that has lost the ability to engage with her peers and feed herself due to the severity of her scoliosis. On Tuesday 15th August 2017 Bethany's spine will be put straight by inserting titanium rods from her neck to her bum. This is going to make a huge difference to her height, her pain and her ability to engage and enjoy doing activities for herself and with her peers. The problem we have is that her wheelchair will not be suitable for her anymore. 6 weeks after her operation she will be assessed, she will then be casted and the the wheelchair made. We would like Bethany to have a chunk chair on release from hospital, they are lightweight and extremely adaptable and she can also have a tray on one which will make a huge difference to her ability to play and eat. The NHS will provide a basic chair and within 3 months she will have a moulded chair. Anyone wo knows anything about wheelchairs will know how heavy and cumbersome they are which is fine for extended periods of sitting but for trips out, appointments and engaging with her friends and feeding herself the chunk would literally change her life.So however little the amount you can afford to give be rest assured that the impact of that will change a young persons life that has endured so much in her 18 years. The photo is of her spine at the moment, in fact that X-ray is 3 years old, imagine how her life will be with a straight spine and a lovely bright pink ( her favourite colour) wheelchair. Thank you for reading x The amount to fundraise will probably be lower upon a specific quote from chunk.
