Story
It is with great sorrow & sadness that I find myself trying to raise funds for Faith, a beautiful courageous young Kenyan woman.
Faith is 22 years old in her final University year, studying Molecular Biology. She is the grandaughter of Karacha (Kak for short) with whom I was reunited with in Kenya, May 2014. The emotional reunion was filmed by the BBC as part of the documentary series ‘The Gift’. Aired February 2015.
During filming, I met all of Kak’s extended family, including my childhood friend Christine, mother to Faith, Ike & Beverly (named after me). Beverly a sweet, shy young woman was featured in the documentary.
They are a very close, loving, supportive family, so it is a heartbreaking tradegy, that on Sunday 4th March 2018, on their way back to Nairobi after a visit home, Beverly, Faith & Ike’s car was involved in a serious collison with another vehicle.
Beverly 20 years old, 2nd University year, studying Genomics Science was killed along with her brother Ike, 24 years old, who had graduated with a Bachelor of Mass Communications Degree & was working very hard to build up his online Electronics business
Faith broke both legs & spent two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit, suffering from complications to her chest & lungs as a result of the accident.
Of course Faith is very traumatised, has vivid upsetting memories of the accident & the last moments spent with her dying brother & sister.
On top of the devastating loss of two children, grandchildren etc.. the family are faced with huge funeral & hospital bills. There is no National Health Service in Kenya & whilst the whole family are helping as much as possible with the financial burden, Faith still needs ongoing treatment.
A physiotherapist to help her recover physically & just as importantly , counselling is desperately needed to help her recover emotionally & mentally. This will be costly & the family do not have the means to fund it.
Presently Faith is being cared for by her older brother Willis, who has been a tower of strength to Faith, his parents, Kak & all the family, whilst coping with his own painful grief.
It will be a long road of recovery for Faith. Our thoughts & prayers are with her, Willis, Christine & all the family in this very distressing time.
Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated & really help lighten the financial burden!
Give Faith hope for the future & restore her belief in humanity.
