    Story

We need £3,000 to save a vital community resource for local families.

We are volunteers who run an After School Club to allow parents to keep working whilst their children go to Primary School. In 2016 we had to move out of the Primary School building and find new premises, we had been in the school since 1996. Then we gradually lost our valued staff to retirement and family commitments.

The move to another hall and the hiring of new staff has hit the funds really hard as we don't charge to make a large profit. Our pricing is low to keep our service accessible for all working parents.

We support 42 families and the demand is growing for the service. But we find ourselves facing some costs in the short term for staff recruitment and training. Although we have a good long-term financial plan we are stuck just now and may have to close by summer if we can't cover our immediate costs caused by all the changes.

If we can keep going we plan to bring in grant funding by becoming a charity and be able to provide the children with an even wider variety of activities like jewellery making, pottery and sports. We will support our staff getting further qualifications and keeping the childcare standards high.

Please help us, several parents have said they will have to give up work if we close and we don't want to let the children down. Thank you.

      Update from the Page owner

Hi everyone. Thanks very much for the kind donations, it will really help tide us over in the next few weeks. We are going to keep trying hard to raise funds to see us into the new school term after the summer. Thanks again, the Biggar After School Club committee.x.

I haven't had the need to use the service but have done so in the past. Worthy cause in the community.
