Weʼve raised £3,270 to Buy additional wetsuits & equipment for the NW Highland 'Dolphin Snorkellers' - kids taking to the sea to learn and appreciate our seas!

Funded on Saturday, 14th October 2017

    Story

Norman Todd from Ullapool and Colin MacLeod From Stornoway are going to try swimming from Achlochan by Achiltibuie to Ullapool on Saturday 7th October. 14 miles of cold Highland seas. This hasn't been done before and at temperature of 11 to 12 degrees will be an achievement. Both swimmers want to do this to highlight the potential for this area for wild swimming and also to support the Living Seas Project who have carried out beach cleans on the start and end beaches, and also work towards conserving and promoting the amazing seas of the north west Highlands.

All money raised will go towards the highland 'Dolphin Snorkellers' a project that teaches kids how to snorkel and takes them out into the sea to see first hand how amazing our marine life is and why we need to protect it.

A support boat will follow the swimmers plus local kayakers and people wanting to encourage this event. Anyone with a boat is invited to come out and join in, or why not get to the coast at Coigach, Rhue, Loch Broom and Ullapool to join in with the day and celebration of sea.

If weather foils the day, all money will be returned. If they manage it, the funds raised will go towards helping get our kids out into the seas and encouraging others to come and enjoy our seas and coast.

Please donate or come along and join in. Wee landing party after achieving this will probably be in order!a who

Norman and Colin made it ashore last night after 9 hours swimming 14 miles. It wasn't easy and we had concerns, especially as we lost light approaching Ullapool, but they kept going supported by number of boat/kayaks/ribs, huge support from shore coming in, and updates of the funds being raised throughout the day. Thanks to everyone that saw them off, joined in, welcomed them ashore and donated to this page, and most importantly, the swimmers!
