Story

A lot of sufferers don't choose to express their stories which is sometimes why we don't get the help that we need.

I was diagnosed with Nasal Carcinoma when I was 18, an unexpected diagnosis for somebody at that age, you can never really process that information. I was never warned of the long battle that cancer can have on somebodys life. There were times where i'd think that breaking every bone in the body would be easier to heal than cancer, and I was probably right.

One of the multiple post-cancer health problems that occurs when you have radiotherapy to the face is that dental takes a big impact. Over the course of 9 years, I have seen my teeth deteriorate in-front of my eyes. No amount of dental work that I've had done in the past has been able to keep up with the deterioration.

I've finally been given an end goal, it's not celebrity celebrity treatment for everyone, but it is for me. I have been offered a Semi-Permanant over-denture, but to get there I need to have work done through my dentist. This work includes such things as extractions, and root canals. The longer I go without this treatment, the more at risk I am at developing a condition called Osteoradionecrosis, in which radiotherapy to the face and jaw can lead into the jaw bone and muscles around the area to start dying, especially if there is bad dental in place. In my case with, with my current situation being dragged out for so long by my hospital, the risk is looking more likely to become a reality.

I have already received extractions of 23 teeth, which were unable to be rescued and I currently wear dentures to fill those gaps. In between those gaps I have teeth, but they are slowly dying, and snapping away only to leave the rooted tooth in. This has made my mouth prone to infections. I've been fighting for something more permanant because at the age of 27, it's sometimes embarassing for them to fall out in-front of people. The option that has been given to me seems better than winning the lottery but at the moment I have a lot of work to do before I can get there.

The reason I have set this page up is because I have been fighting this battle for 9 years, I am growing tired and I need a little help. A push in the direction that I need, the money I need to raise is to get the final stage of work done through my dentist, and any extra that has been donated will go sraight to Cancer Research for their excellent support that they offer.

Please share about, I am someone who will always put others before myself, and I have done for a very long time, but this time I am the one that needs the help.
