Story
***UPDATE*** We have changed the online target to £2,580 as myself and Chequers have managed to raise £3420 offline towards our £6000 target!, Thank you to Aston Scott Insurance Brokers who donated £250.00 offline and everyone else who has also donated offline. ***
I work for Chequers Contract Services, and together we have embarked on a fundraising expedition to pay for an innovative new piece of technology to help people living with dementia.
The challenge has been funded by Chequers and myself to ensure that every penny you donate will go toward purchasing transforming the lives of people with dementia.
I will be attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in October, on a trek that will hopefully see me climb to almost 6,000m above sea level, and conquer the tallest mountain in Africa!
Along with my great uncle, I will travel to Tanzania on October 24th to begin a 7 day trek to the mountain's summit. We will traverse terrain ranging from dense rainforest to alpine desert and a snow-capped summit, all the while acclimatising to the altitude on the way.
We are taking part in this trip to raise money to have a 'Tovertafel' table installed at Milton Grange in Eastbourne, which holds a special place in my family's heart for the care they provided to my grandmother.
The Tovertafel is a fun care innovation that connects older people in the late stage of their dementia journey with each other and with their surroundings, all the while stimulating movement. The games were developed specifically for the people living with moderate to severe dementia and can be played both independently and under supervision.
The Tovertafel is a little box that can be mounted on the ceiling. Inside the box is a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, speaker, and processor that work together to project the games onto the table. Because the colourful objects respond to hand and arm movements, residents get to play with the light itself.
I hope to raise £6000 which would cover the the installation of the machine at Milton Grange, as well as training for staff.I understand this is ambitious, but if I could get as close to this as possible it would be a huge achievement, and go a long way to helping a very good cause.
Thank You
