Story
The English Chess Federation are hosting a 24 hour chess tournament to raise money for The British Red Cross, with the intention of raising £35,000. This money will be used to help the BRC provide assistance to those affected by the Covid-19 lockdown. This includes supporting foodbanks, providing hygiene kits and meals for vulnerable people and helping to raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease to help stop its spread.
Our Chess Club has got together a team of 9 students, all eager to take on the ECF's best and brightest over the 24 hours to help raise money for this great cause. Students will be up against countless other ECF members, including several prominent GMs. This will really test their abilities but they're so keen to use their love of chess to do something good.
Students have each taken a shift so that for the whole 24 hours there is always at least 1 Blue Coat member playing. Several students will be filming their shift and we hope to put together a small video at the end of the tournament, highlighting our favourite bits.
We're really hoping to raise £100 for the British Red Cross and we'd love to ask members of Blue Coat's community to support the students. Any contribution will be hugely appreciated and will go a long way!
