Things go wrong and sometimes they go wrong Big Time! As a result of this I ended up in a Psychiatric Ward. Lots of therapy later, both group and individual, and long talks with specialists, I ended up with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder and Bi-polar Disorder. Once I was stable on the right medication and my moods were stable, I was discharged with the support of the professionals I needed to stay this way!
Long story short, I ended up living in a narrowboat, now I know how that sounds! But, as it worked out, it was exactly what I needed, whether it was the slower way of life, or the friendliness of the other boaters and the fact that they weren’t judging me as was the case with the people I know before I was sectioned, or something else I don’t know? But my mindset got better, my moods got happier and my depression and anxiety were finally within my control!
14 months on, I'm very much in control of my anxiety and depression and I’m still living on my narrowboat, life is looking good, and I’m still more or less in control of my mood swings. But my narrowboat/home could now use some help too!
Running water is a problem, since moving onto my boat, my steel tank has rusted away in places so doesn’t hold much water. Really it needs cutting out and replacing with a stainless-steel tank. The water pump as it run dry a few times, has packed up and needs replacing.
I would also love to have hot running water not from the kettle, so would be great to add a cylinder which can be heated by running the engine. As well as fitting a diesel water heater and plumbing for hot water all year round.
I do have a small wood burning stove at the front of the boat but the advantage of adding a water heater is I can add a few radiators to keep my bedroom and bathroom warm as the heat from the stove doesn’t reach that far into the boat.
Even though it doesn’t sound it, but the steel hull is in good shape for the most part. All the windows could do with removing, repair steel around holes then re-fit the window with new seals. As well as repairs around the steel doors at the rear which could also do with replacing.
That sounds a lot, but it would be great to have it sort of sealed and watertight by the winter with the little luxury of both hot and cold running water. There is still plenty of other jobs which need doing, new battery’s and solar power fitted would come in really handy. A good service for the engine, 12 volt wiring needs replacing and extending, the list goes on but as you can see it’s the little things which add up but a warm cosy winter with your help would be fantastic! The rest will follow!

About the fundraiser
I have worked full time since leaving school, with very little time spent unemployed. I have enjoyed most of my working life, which included many happy years as a Firefighter. Not working at the moment due to mental hearth issues, but am improving and hope to be work again soon.
