    Story

    Who was Charlie Craig ?

Charlie was a special boy who went to sleep on Friday the 20 January and didn’t wake up, he was 15.
He left his family and friends in a state of shock. He is missed. every day. Those of you who knew Charlie, will understand what a talented young man he was and what a wonderful, caring, kind, funny, smiley personality he had.
Charlie loved his bike, riding ,racing and touring. He also loved having fun with his friends, people, challenges, taking photos and films, cricket, fishing, his friends and his family.
Charlie's recent achievement was winning two rounds of the cyclo- cross national series and taking the title of the series champion. He was very proud and happy. Charlie took his achievements and losses with a smile and ready for his next event. His constant want for life and what it had to offer sometimes had us in a whirlwind. We loved every minute. Charlie was looking forward to a trip to Austria in the summer, to compete in the youth European championships. Charlie had experienced Belgium Cyclo-cross racing and was eager to return.
Charlie had the ability to communicate with anybody regardless of their age or interests, he had time for everyone. That is something we hope we can all learn from this special boy, he had time, patience and smiled constantly. He had a passion that most of us may never experience, he loved life.

Why are we doing this? As a group of ladies, who live in Hayfield and knew of Charlie and his family we have been motivated to get on our bikes and help raise money for this inspirational charity.
In September we will cycle from Bordeaux in France to Bilbao in Spain. It will involve 4 days in the saddle, over 300 miles, and here come the hard part, over 7000 metres of ascent! Two of us have never done anything like this before but we hope the spirirt of Charlie will be with us all !

Well we did it and survived. We set off from Bordeaux and arrived in Bilbao four days later, different people for the experience. We were stronger than we knew we could be, learned more about ourselves and what a team of women are capable of when they put their minds to it. Along the way we saw things we never imagined, we laughed ( a lot), we cried (quite a bit) and we sang (not well) and we broke personal records. It was a real physical and mental challenge.
