    Story

The Director of football for PRFC, Steve Clarke, recently came back from a holiday in Jamaica. In the lead up to Jamaica, Steve decided to gather together some football tops as he wanted to give them to some Jamaican children with an interest in football. The club secretary, Damian Ray donated Padnell Rovers kits, medals and football boots. Portsmouth FC tops where also donated by Steve and various other people too. Steve met his neighbours and luckily enough, one of them was a school teacher at the local school, Boscobel Primary. This was an instant link and Steve donated the kit to them and also arranged a training session. Steve and his family watched a football match and couldn’t believe how different it was to England. Only a handful of the young footballers had football boots on, one child had only one trainer on and the majority of them were playing barefoot. They were playing on an uneven, stony pitch with no socks or shin pads, no corner flags – there weren’t even white lines on the ground! The goals would not be legal in England and would be seen as a health hazard as they were metal and would often collapse if the ball hit them. They didn’t have nets on the ‘goal posts’ either. No first aid bags where spotted or water bottles and they didn’t even have kit; they were all wearing bibs. When Steve & Shannon spoke to the principal of the school, they were keen to ask some questions in regards to the way the school is run and what facilities they have. She said that she doesn’t even have a laptop to run the school and that everything is handwritten. We want to provide the school with different size kit for the football team and we also want to provide the principal with a laptop to make her work life a lot easier. We would love to be able to end up in the position where we can expand and help other schools on the island.
