Story
The Brick Children School is a Wales-based registered charity (no. 1097055) working in partnership in Nepal. It runs a community education project for migrant children and their families working in the brick fields of the Kathmandu Valley. Since 2000, with its Nepalese partners Kopila Nepa, the charity has provided education and health care for child labourers, one of the most marginalised and hard-to-reach communities in the world.
The Brick Children School Tiffin Project provides meals for 150 three- to twelve-year old pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Kathmandu Valley. Research shows that well-nourished children learn more effectively and a meal is an incentive for parents with low/insecure incomes to send their children to school.
Since the Tiffin Project started, the number of children going to school has increased and attendance has improved. Parents and teachers have reported a positive impact on learning.
The Brick Children School gives its pupils respite from brick making and a quality education in a safe, happy environment. It helps each child achieve their potential, giving them the opportunity to relax, play and just be kids.
