Story
Our daughter-in-law almost died last year following a sudden cardiac arrest brought on by stress. But immediate CPR saved her, and she was very lucky... or our two grandchildren would almost certainly have lost their Mum. She's had many problems since her husband lost his job following a serious illness. But we've managed to help keep the family afloat to the best of our ability. This year, we sacrificed our car, as their's had reached the end of the road, and last month, we footed the bill for their MOT & repairs. We didn't mind too much, as that's what families do! But Lizzie was stuck without any transport and needed a little cheap runaround to ferry the kids to school etc. So again, we helped out and bought her a seemingly road-worthy little car with a new MOT. Just a week later, the suspension collapsed and the wheel fell off in Aldi's car park! Then we had quite a battle to get back the repair bill and towing costs: £411. OK, we moved on from that, but today, just a week further on, Lizzie had an unfortunate skid on black ice into a ditch and the car is a write-off.(She was driving carefully, but the police told us there were 4 accidents this morning on the same stretch of road). We would normally never do anything do anything like this, but don't know where to turn next. We can't claim on the insurance, as we had Lizzie on our insurance as a named driver, but didn't protect the no claims as we also had to pay her insurance car tax as well as our own. That would mean us losing 9 years no claims discount! So we are scuppered. We have lost the whole value of the car we bought just weeks ago and have no way of affording another one, as this one was bought with our credit card and we're still recovering from it. Lizzie needs help but doesn't know where to turn and is too proud to ask... so if any friends or family want to chip in - even a tiny amount, as her Christmas present, we would be incredibly grateful! Many thanks.

8 years agoMany thanks to all our generous and kind-hearted supporters! You helped make it possible for us to replace Lizzie's written-off car. The account has now been closed and we got very close to our target! It wouldn't have been possible without your donations. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

8 years agoMany, many thanks to all those who have so kindly donated to Lizzie's new wheels fund. We can't begin to tell you how grateful she/we are. Without a car, she will be totally trapped and unable to transport her children to school. We are now past the halfway mark, as we have received a further £100 in cheques. There is only another £250 to go, until we've raised enough to replace Lizzie's written-off car, which we will top up if it's necessary.
