Weʼve raised £250 to Help the Broomfield Horse Sanctuary pay urgent vet bills

    Story

Can you help the Broomfield Horse Sanctuary?

The Broomfield Horse Sanctuary, based in West Penwith, Cornwall, is urgently seeking donations to help pay for vet bills as a result of this year’s harsh winter.

Here at the Sanctuary, we have been battered by snow, ice, wind and storms all winter - which has made life at the yard difficult for both our residents and volunteers.

Several of our horses and ponies have severely felt the effects, with deep mud causing injuries and bitter temperatures making it hard to get back on track.

One horse in particular, the beautiful Ladybird, has been particularly unlucky following a mud-related injury in her field.

She then got a nasty infection, which meant that without immediate veterinary treatment, she faced a poor prognosis.

But thanks to medication and love - she is finally on the mend.

It now means this winter, since just before the first snowfall, we have racked up vet bills costing more than £700.

And we still have more to come.

Any donations to help us get through this hard time would be gratefully received and much appreciated.

Every little helps and will help us keep looking after the horses and ponies who are in our care.

    About the Sanctuary:

A Sanctuary for the protection of horses and ponies who are in need of care or attention as a result of sickness, maltreatment, neglect or poor circumstances."

The Broomfield Horse Sanctuary was founded in January 1986 by Elizabeth Jupe to provide a rescue for needy animals, here in West Penwith.

We sometimes take retirement horses too if they are crippled or ill or if the owner is genuinely unable to continue caring for their horses or pony.

    What do we provide?

    1.     We aim to provide care, shelter and veterinary treatment for any resident at the Sanctuary.

    2.     When an animal is mentally and physically recovered, we place them in foster homes (we never sell an animal) so they can lead normal lives. This leaves space at the Sanctuary for new residents.

Each animal here at the Sanctuary has its own story, the charity standing by a promise to take on those in need.

Ages of the horses range from 8-31 and they live a happy, comfortable life here, arguably enjoying some of the best 180-degree sea views in West Penwith on the site nestled between the Levant and Geevor tin mines.

Currently, we look after 11 horses and ponies and one pygmy goat – and every little helps.

Help us to establish a lasting base for the future by acting now. We have to raise funds to maintain a permanent Sanctuary with the facilities needed to restore animals to good health once more.
