    Story

The Bambisanani Partnership is a unique collaboration developed by St. Mary’s Menston primary school in Leeds, UK and Mnyakanya High School in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The partnership uses sport as a major catalyst to develop international understanding, education, health and leadership. The initiative, which begun in 2006 has gained both national and international acclaim and is a registered charity.

Sports students at the University of Leeds have jumped on board with this initiative through the Gryphons Abroad Programme. Alongside 9 other sports students I have been selected to travel to KwaZulu-Natal in June 2017 to develop and deliver an innovative and sustainable student led programme that inspires and motivates change in young people and communities both in Leeds and South Africa through learning and leadership.

During our time in South Africa we will be teaching lessons in a range of subjects and leaving our materials to create a collective syllabus for the school. We will also be taking sports equipment out with us to use in sessions and tournaments with the children which will then be donated to ensure that the incorporation of sports into the curriculum is sustainable and effective. Moreover, we are shipping bicycles over and are running a cycling programme to teach children how to ride a bicycle and general maintenance to ensure education is accessible for all especially those that walk over an hour to get to school.

In order to take part in this fantastic project I am responsible for fundraising £2000 to cover project costs and as a donation to the Bambisanani Partnership. As part of fundraising, me and some of my fellow teammates from LUUWAFC are taking part in a sponsored mud obstacle course on the 25th February 2017. The day will consist of a fun but physically challenging assault course as we split into two teams and race head to head.

We are hoping to raise £500 so any donations no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated x
