    Story

The 37th Ayrshire and Forth Region Scouts are collaborating with Scouts of Namiba, and the remote village community in north west Namibia, to construct:
An infant school and playground with fencing and a water supply, alongside a fruit and vegetable garden with fencing, a store room, a water supply, tolls and seeds.

The school will be built in the village of Omakange, which is located in the far north-west of Namibia. It is one of the least-accessible and seldom visited areas of the country. Namibia is one of the driest countries sub-Suharan Africa, making agriculture difficult. The country has a population of 2.1 million people, half of whom are involved in agriculture, and therefore the dry conditions make daily life difficult.

This build would be greatly beneficial to the local people of Omakange, who live in abject poverty. The nearest school is 6-7 kilometres away, which results in children under the age of 7 being unable to attend due to the distance they have to walk. Therefore, they are taught under a tree by a volunteer teacher.

Scouts will work alongside villagers to construct the infant school and community garden. They will also provide a water supply by running a pipeline to the community. When the infant school has been built this will allow the young local children to begin their education in a safe and secure environment. The infant school building will also benefit the entire community as a local meeting place outside of school hours.

In order to achieve this we must raise funds to purchase 13,890 bricks, 124 square meters of roof sheets, 223 square metres of wall plaster and a 5,000 litre water tank, as well as transport and living necessities whilst we are on the trip.

The total project cost will be £25,000. The personal cost for each participant will be £2600, which we will raise individually. We would be grateful if you could support our project by donating funds for our overall costs.
