    Story

Nicola Coupe of Burbage Primary School is a seriously devoted school principal; she is jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft to raise money to develop her ‘growing school’. On Saturday 17th June, Nicola, who has an inherent fear of heights, will take the plunge along with Beverley Thompson and Anita Campbell in a bid to raise £8,500 towards fitting out the school’s new classroom and developing the school grounds as an ‘outside classroom’. This includes the creation of a butterfly-friendly wildlife area, fencing for their chickens, a vegetable and flower plot and a mud kitchen.
The PTA have already raised £1,270 via the Christmas and Easter Produce Fairs. Now the school community is working hard to raise the rest
Nicola began working at Burbage Primary School as Executive Principal in April 2013 when they converted to Academy status. She was appointed as Principal in November 2014.
The school is looking to develop its ‘growing school’ status with a strong focus on learning outside the classroom and gaining direct ‘real life’ experience that will enable its students to become global citizens. “It is not only about what the children learn but how and where they learn. Outdoor lessons add value to classroom learning, helping to raise achievement and supporting the development of key life skills such as problem-solving, co-operation and communication. The children love our outdoor spaces as they offer opportunities for them to explore their creativity and sense of adventure!” said Nicola.
Burbage Primary School is part of Excalibur Academies Trust. Founded in 2012, the trust prides itself on a special blend of independence and collaboration, which is demonstrated in everything that they do. The academies and partner schools are exceptional – delivering an education which ensures every student achieves and enjoys success.

Thank you for all your messages and donations so far! See our article in Marlborough News Online at http://www.marlboroughnewsonline.co.uk/news/all-the-news/6727-reach-for-the-skies-sky-dive-to-raise-money-for-burbage-primary-school. The children have come up with more exciting ways to fundraise - including a 'Smartie Challenge' which will involve each family having a tube of Smarties to explore mathematically (and then eat!) By filling the empty tube with 5ps, 20ps and £1 coins the Year Six children have calculated that we could raise £3,000!
