Annfield Plain football club was established in 1890. We play our home matches at Derwent Park, Annfield Plain, Stanley, County Durham. We play in the Wearside league striving for promotion to the Northern league but we have a major stumbling block.
Derwent Park is very dated and ground on a whole desperately needs redevelopments'.
They are several problems we need to address to get the ground up to a respectable standard.
First of all the ground needs new drainage and security fencing. Once we have this in place, floodlights are essential to access the Northern league. Then there's the bigger picture. A new clubhouse with a bar, function room and secure storage for the clubs equipment.
The development of the ground would be a great facility for everyone. From young footballers to elderly people who can socialize in the clubs function room. Its also an avenue for young players released from academies to stay involved and interested in the beautiful game.
Alot of young players lose interest in our area at ages 16 -18 through different distractions. We want to encourage young players not to give up at the first hurdle and educate them that there are other avenues in football.
Annfield Plain, Catchgate, Stanley and surrounding areas would really benefit from a facility like this. We could hold free football coaching sessions for the under privileged children to help channel them in right directions through socialising and learning how important it is to have team spirit and a sense of belonging. I really feel this will help decrease the amount of vandalism and crime in the area.
Derwent Park has been prone to alot of vandalism over the years. So it is our priority to secure the ground to help give us a fighting chance to upgrade the with no set backs.
All we are asking is for a small donation from anyone who would wish to help put our local club back on the map. Help Derwent Park accomplish it's target and give our local area and a facility to be proud of.
