I'm doing the Colour obsticle rush on Saturday 16th June to help raise funds for Maggie's centre Newcastle. My husband was diagnosed with a terminal GMB4 brain tumour in April 2013. Devastating doesn't even come close! His treatment was absolutely gruelling, but he was determined that he was going to be the one that beat the horrendous disease and was so brave. During the time he was having treatment at NCC we were introduced to Maggie's. Ken used the centre a lot over the 2yrs he was having treatment, and got a lot of comfort from going and having a chat with staff and others who were having treatment or had the same diagnosis. Its a very relaxed and informal place that put people at ease and also all the different groups that you can access are brilliant. Ken always popped in after any treatment for a cuppa, bacon sarnie, bit of cake and a read of the paper (not even radiotherapy or chemo put him off his grub) or we would nip in for a cuppa after a meeting with the Oncologist which was always needed to get our heads together before going home and seeing the kids.The staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable and able to answer any queries or help with any worries. Basically it's an amazing place that help people with any form of cancer, their families and friends.
