Weʼre raising £500 to Travel to Thailand to teach English as a foreign language to primary school children
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Hi. My name is Callum. I have created this crowdfunding page to try and raise money to travel to Thailand in the summer of 2020.
I will be going to Thailand as a volunteer with Camp Thailand for 4 weeks as I travel to Phuket (Thailand). The experience will involve me teaching English as a foreign language to primary school children and, we will look after and care for rescued elephants in a large local elephant conservation project.
English is the second most spoken language worldwide. Therefore, getting the opportunity to teach kids in Thailand who barely speak English will be an amazing experience. not only will I benefit from this but also the children will benefit a huge amount as learning and being able to speak English will create so many opportunities for the kids that they would not have without learning the language. Learning English will give the children the opportunity to maybe someday also travel around the world and work/live/learn abroad. My role as an English teacher out in Thailand will be to motivate, teach, help and make friends with the children, some who will be much less fortunate than you and I.
The elephants found in Thailand are Indian elephants, a subspecies of the Asian elephant. During the 20th century there were about 100,000 Asian elephants. However today there are only an estimated 35,000 - 40,000 Asian elephants left. The population has more than halved in only 100 years! If this happened to the human population, we would be throwing all our money into fixing this. the main threat to Asian elephants is loss of habitat, Human-elephant conflict and the enslavement of elephants for human entertainment e.g. elephant back rides and circuses. Elephants are hugely important no matter what species it is. They are a keystone species, playing an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of the ecosystems in which they live. Furthermore, they create grasslands, salt licks and water holes which in turn makes other animals' lives easier to survive in their environments. These reasons are only a few of why the local elephant sanctuary for rescued elephants in Phuket is so important.
The money raised will go towards teaching the children in the poorer schools, and towards donating money to the elephant sanctuary to help the endangered Asian elephant. It will also go towards funding the trip to allow this amazing work to happen.
I would appreciate any donations no matter how big or small. It would be a massive help!
A massive thank you in advance!!
