Weʼre raising £2,500 to Emergency Travel Costs & Donation to Mental Health Charity.
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Unfortunately in last week my brother in law suffered a mental breakdown resulting in a psychotic episode. This happened while abroad in Spain, thankfully my brother in law was insured and he was able to be flown back to the UK and is now getting the treatment he requires.
The travel insurance company were slow to act and it took 3 days to fly him back to the UK. As such, some close family members chose to fly out to Spain and stay with him in the hospital. This was to try and reassure him as the hospital did not have any facilities to treat someone suffering with Psychosis.
They believe that my brother in law had been suffering with a long term mental health illness that he had been "bottling up" inside. This resulted in a mental breakdown and psychosis.
As such, the family are left with a bill of around £1,500 for flights and emergency passports that the insurance company will not pay, as they will only pay the direct treatment my brother in law received.
For us, this is a large sum of money that the family did not have and we only went to support our brother in law so he wasn't alone in an unfamiliar setting.
We would like to raise an additional £1000 that will be donated to a UK mental health charity. This donation will be used to raise awareness and promote mental health treatment/research.
