Weʼre raising £500 to Help raise awareness of hidden disabilities and how we can all do a little bit help.
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
I am Julie Luxton, the Founder of Care & Consideration With A Smile: a charity to help people with a hidden disability.
We want to raise awareness of people with hidden disabilities and that they might just need a little extra Care & Consideration in everyday life.
Here's why: This is my story...
Six years ago, only in my 40's, I had a stroke. I lost 87% of my eyesight. I have reduced sensation all down my left side. I am classed as visually impaired. I walk (or more accurately, stagger & wobble) with a white stick.
I find daily living extremely difficult & exhausting. For example, I can't change my bed linen, I need help cutting up my food, I walk into signposts lamp posts & hedges when walking down the path.
I struggle with short term memory & have great difficulty remembering faces & names. I also really struggle with mental maths, dates, times & money.
Frustratingly, I still think I can do everything that I could do 6.5 years ago but sadly my body cannot. It's so upsetting. And I have become incensed and dismayed by the way the general public, the public services sector and the retail industry treat people like me!
Many a bus driver doesn't take notice if you have a white stick. He doesn't do the simplest helpful thing, like asking which stop you want to get off at.
A shop assistant will tut at you because you take a while to find your purse and then try to sort your money out. But I can't clearly see the colour of the coins in my purse!
All I want is for people like me, people with a hidden disability, to be treated with some care and consideration! Surely, that's not too much to ask?
Adult or child, I want to help you be independent in future life. Having a supportive public service sector & making the general public aware of these problems, will make all the difference.
Through the help of my charity, a person with a hidden disability will wear the charity badge & our friends and supporters are invited to wear a smile badge. The money raised will initially, help to raise awareness of the charity, fund our badges and information leaflets and in the long term, help with support assistance for our clients, at home & on social outings.
Please donate whatever you can to help me and the charity achieve recognition so that everyone with a hidden disability can lead a better life.
