Story

On 22nd/ 23rd September 2018, a team of three intrepid supporters, Gary Roberts, Nathalie Roberts and Robin Beck will walk 50 miles of the North Norfolk Coast, to (hopefully) walk their way to a pot of much-needed funds for the rescue dogs at Canine Welfare.

Canine Welfare Rescue Centre near Hacheston in Suffolk has been rescuing and re-homing dogs since 1992. They take in dogs for various reasons, when the dogs owners have passed away or become ill, family separation or housing issues. They provide a much needed service for people , yet they receive no funding! Running costs are extremely high as they have to cover vet bills, rent , electric, food, 24 hour staff, maintenance etc. Canine Welfare NEVER give up on a dog and dogs will stay in their care until a forever home is found - they have a non destruct policy and never put a dog down, no matter how long they're in their care.

What's heartbreaking is that they have so many fantastic dogs and have several dogs that have been waiting over 3 long years for a home!

The sad fact is that so many people are buying dogs on line from irresponsible breeders and puppy farms, if you look on line right now on Gumtree, Pets4Homes you will see there are hundreds of dogs just in our area that are up for sale, meaning our rescue dogs are constantly overlooked. Often people buy a dog without knowing the needs and training of a dog , they don't give the dog any guidance, enough exercise or spend enough time with them, they then have a dog they can't manage or no longer commit to and hand it over to the rescue centre, BUT then some people have a view there must be something wrong with a rescue dog if it was given up so they go and buy a puppy and the circle starts again, this needs to change.

We're doing this walk as we have rehomed dogs from Canine Welfare and volunteered for them, so we see first hand how dedicated they are. They never stop, they are there for the dogs 24 hours a day , 7 days a week, 365 days of the year - they need and very much deserve your support.

All desperately needed funds we're able to raise will go towards the ongoing care of the rescue dogs.

On behalf of our rescue dogs and Canine Welfare - thank you!

34.3 kilometres today, to finish the North Norfolk Challenge. So the grand total is 34.3 + 42.7 = 77 kilometres so that's 48 miles, just short of 50 miles as we had guessed! Thank you to all who have donated so far. I am really hoping we will get a little closer to our target, so if you are planning to donate but haven't come around to it yet, please spare a minute to do so for the rescue dogs. Thank you for all your support, we are done with walking for a while now xxx

Day 1: walked from Hunstanton to Wells, then Robin and I went to the pub whilst Gary attempted to fetch the car from Hunstanton with the help of our "support car". Unfortunately the battery was flat and so after a little time figuring out what to do, the car suddenly started again. We got to the hotel at 8.30pm and managed to find a restaurant still serving down the road. Fingers crossed for no more car trouble tomorrow! We ended up walking 42 kilometres today slightly more than intended. Please please donate if you can. Thank you! x

We have arrived in North Norfolk. Staying at the Feathers Pub in Dersingham tonight. Hoping for good weather. Saturday looks OK, Sunday less so... Plan for tomorrow: pub only starts serving breakfast at 8 so this delays us slightly. Estimating start of walk on Hunstanton Pier at 9.15am therefore. Wish us luck! x
