Story

Hi everyone! I’m Steffani and this is my cat Caramel! Carrie has been my best friend for 13 years, which is most of my life. She‘s a soppy girl who loves cuddles and nose bumps more than any other cat I’ve met and her favourite place to sleep is under my arm in bed at night! She loves to play with her toy mice and then sit at the bottom of the stairs howling at me until I come and look and congratulate her on catching her “mouse”! She has been the light on my darkest days and has always been there for me when I need her. She‘s helped me in ways she’ll never understand and all I can do is try to give her the best life I can. This girl is as much a part of my family as any of the humans, she’s one of the most important things in my life so I will do anything to make sure she‘s as happy and comfortable as possible.

About a year ago, she started to get sick. We weren’t sure what was wrong with her, but she was losing weight, off her food and not able to go to the toilet properly. After lots of vet appointments and LOTS of laxatives, we changed her diet to grain free food. She started gaining weight again and things were looking good. Recently, the toilet troubles have gotten worse. She had blood tests done and they all came back clear, she’s a healthy girl! But this wouldn‘t explain her trouble going to the toilet. She has to go for regular enemas at the vet which are very costly, but she feels amazing afterwards! After our most recent vet visit, they suggested that it felt like she had some trauma in her abdomen, most likely from being hit by a car and walking it off. They said that a surgery for this would be around £550. It‘s heart wrenching to imagine my sweet little girl going through all this, she‘s been very brave. Despite the discomfort and pain she still cuddles up to me every night.

I struggle with my own illnesses too which stop me from working and my mum is retired so our income is low. I am willing to put as much money as I possibly can towards helping my little girl but as all pet owners know, there are a lot of extra costs to looking after your poorly pet. Painkillers, antibiotics, laxatives, vet visits, specialised food... It’s been a long road, but the vets say this surgery is very likely to be successful and Carrie should be feeling very good in herself afterwards! She is a healthy cat with no health conditions and the surgery basically just involves stitching her abdomen back into the right place.

Any money you decide to donate will go straight towards Caramel’s healthcare. It's a large sum of money to come up with at short notice, but I will be saving as much as I can on top of her frequent vet trips. I cannot say how much it would mean to me and to her. I will be posting regular updates about her vet visits and posting pictures and videos of her! If you have donated and would like a personalised thankyou video from caramel, then please message me with your email or facebook and I will send one to you! You can reach me on my facebook https://www.facebook.com/steffani.boynes.7 or email steffboynes@gmail.com

Thank you so much for reading, from Steff and Caramel x

I am leaving this page up as i had to borrow a lot of money to pay for this surgery and i will have to pay it back on top of any more vet trips carrie will need, so any money donated is still going towards her healthcare.

Huge update! Caramel had her surgery and it was a success! She is in great health with good organs and bloods. They pulled the muscles together to put her abdomen back into place, but found her spleen had been damaged from some trauma, but has now healed. They think she was hit by a car just over a year ago when this all started and she walked it off so we never realised. Only time will tell if this helps her toilet troubles but i’m so happy her droopy tummy is fixed and healthy! I’m off to pick her up from the vet soon! :-)
