    Story

    **CHARITY FUNDRAISER FOR NDCS**

Ok here goes..... for those who dont know or wonder why i am doing this heres our story.....

I carry a genetic gene that will give me the chance of passing that gene onto any boy i have they say 50% chance.... This is X Linked Recessive Deafness this accounts for 1-7% of all childhood deafness. (Rare) I have 2 boys that are affected. Lee Born in 2003 was born hearing and slowly at the age of 3 his hearing started to deteriorate every test was a 5 decible loss in his hearing, these decibles add up and came to the time where Hearing aids were just doing nothing for him, i had to make the hardest decision ive ever made, to take away any natural hearing he had left ( very small), At age 9 Lee was bilaterally implanted with cochlear implants. this boy has strived and worked very hard through his rehabilitation Lee is now 15 and in main stream secondry school.
Caleb My Boy Twin was Born 7 weeks early with his sister in 2004. We noticed Calebs Hearing Loss At the age of about 1-2 yrs, tell tale signs Falling , Banging his head so he was given hearing aids to help him. To cut a long story short History repeated itself and we down the same road as we been with Lee. In 2012 Caleb Underwent Surgery and was also Bilaterally Implanted. But because Calebs Hearing Loss Started Before His Speach He has some delays in his proccessing but he is also now thriving with support from a TOD (teacher of the deaf) without this support i would hate to think where he would be.
Ellie My Twin Daughter Now has to wear a hearing aid in her right ear as she has lost some hearing only found out 1 yr ago.

Both my parents are profoundly deaf mums was due to Meningiatist at the age of 5yrs, and Dad lost his hearing roughly about 11yrs old. I also have a hearing impairment Profound in my right ear and left ear is slowly deteriorating but as usual i hide it greatly ps ( good Lip Reader).
