Weʼre raising £500 to Adam is Running an Ultra Marathon for The Matthew Atkins Memorial Fund
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Matthew Atkins is my brother. He had Cystic Fibrosis. He was amazing, funny, kind, inspirational and above all always ready to help anybody - despite his own life challenges.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections.
He died when he was 17 years old.
One of Matthew's last wishes was to create a fund in his memory and with this money we buy our local hospital Christmas presents, Easter Eggs and other surprises on the Children's Ward throughout the year, which we have done every year since he passed away.
Matthew's school friend Adam is wanting to raise some money for Matthew's fund. Adam is running a marathon, but not just any marathon, an ULTRA MARATHON!!! You know, just a casual 31 miles. This is taking place in Scotland on the 30th March (the day before what would have been Matt's 37th Birthday). This campaign is more special to us right now as this year marks the 20th year since Matt's passing. So let's do something amazing!!!
Adam says... 'Hi there, Thanks for dropping by, my next ultra marathon will be dedicated The Matthew Atkins Memorial Fund. I will be running the John Muir Way Ultra marathon in East Lothian... A 31 mile jaunt which will give me plenty of time to reflect on not just Matthew but our group of friends we had at the time. Matthew was a friend of mine at school, he was brilliant and funny and brave always bigger than me! He also had Cystic Fibrosis which cut his life short. His amazing family said to me that he always wanted money to be raised to help children on his old ward and give them Christmas and Easter presents to make things a little easier for them and the families. Please give what you can.'
